When Snow Trails opened near Mansfield back in 1964 Ruth decided she was still a skier based on her experiwence in Germany decades earlier. She strapped on the 'new' skis, rode the lift to the top of the hill and shot down, through the fence and across the parking lot; steel ski edges striking sparks off the gravel. She was glad no one opened a door as she went between cars.
My first experience at Snow Trails was frustrating. We drove up and purchased tickets after being told the beginner area conditions were good. They were boilerplate ice, at my skill level at that time I couldn't possibly ski it. They were less than sympathetic until I complained so vehemently they finally gave us passes to return another day. They went unused and it was years before we returned.
We did return for a number of ski patrol functions, and a few times just to ski with friends. And when I had been away from skiing for many years, I finally yielded to the entreaties of many old ski patrol friends and returned to Snow Trails to participate in the TAASC program for diasbled skiers.
